Great North Run
Marc Hagland took part in the biggest half marathon in the UK on Sunday, the Great North Run which runs from Newcastle to South Shields. Marc came in under two hours to finish in time of 01-58-32, finishing 11,474th.
Rose Jennings and Peter Monk took on the Posh 5km which starts and finishes in the grounds of Offley Palace near Hitchin. Rose Jennings completed the course in 28-00 whilst Peter Monk returning from injury came in at 30-23.
The weekly dose of Parkruns had a few Striders out in force. Parkrun is a free 5km (3.2mile) run for every one of all abilities which are hosted around the country at 9am every Saturday. Check the Parkrun website to find out the nearest course to you.
Steve Wells did the Striders proud by finishing 4th (out of 276 runners) at the Stevenage Parkrun, the two lap course at Fairlands Valley Lakes. Other results: James French 22-15 (24th), Darren Gilbert 24-50 (56th), Russell Andrews 26-03 (74th), Steve Moore 26-19 (80th), Caroline Longfellow 32-13 (167th), Tracy Norris 41-20 (229th) and Esperanzo Castro 42-38 (235th).
Danik Bates took on the two lap off-road course at Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex which runs alongside the North Sea. Danik completed the course in 24-57, finishing 28th out of 79 runners.
Zero to 5km training starts this September
On 5th September and every week for ten weeks, Stevenage Striders will be hosting a free beginners course and will be held in Shephalbury Park. The first course will be on the 5th September starting at 19:15. Any enquires please contact Chris Leigh via the website.
