5k handicap

Only 11 Striders braved the warm conditions on Thursday to complete the 3rd 5k handicap of 2018. First was Brenda Smith in 34:17 followed in by Greg Bradbury 23:34 and Tom Sclanders 20:47. The fastest lady was Vicky McIver 23:54 and fastest man Steve Wells 19:41.

The low number of finishers has really opened up the league series again and it’s anyone’s to win with three races to go. Of those who have completed all three races so far, Jessica Wright leads followed by Vicky McIver and Linda Howell.

The next 5k handicap is on 14th August.

Hot in Ware

Three Striders took on the Ware 10 on Sunday in extremely hot conditions at the Ware festival of running.

Dan Sanders and Peter Monk raced in the 10k. With 231 entered Dan finished in 26th in 48:58 whilst Peter was 102nd in 57:56.

Ben Parry took on the challenging 10 mile race and finished in 144th out of 284 in a time of 1:33:23.


Despite the hot conditions Striders got out and took on a variety of ParkRuns on Saturday.

At Stevenage Steve Wells was first in his age group and 5th overall in 19:16. Steve Moore ran a pb of 25:24 whilst Tony and Esperanza Castro ran in formation in 27:52. Harrison Lovelock completed the course in 30:35 and Gary Wallace and Louise Chancellor ran together in 32:13.

Mark Blease took on the Letchworth course for the first time in 29:04 whilst Tom Sclanders made his debut at Panshanger in 21:14 finishing second in his age group.

Ollie Garbas won this weeks prize of most travelled Strider racing when he finished the Krakow ParkRun in 20:18.

Race for Life

Tracy Norris battled the heat at the Stevenage Race for Life to finish in 44 minutes.

Tough Mudder

A team including James Palmer, Mark Dunn, Sarah Cousins, Tracy Bullot and Katy Baker took on water, climbs and electric shocks to complete the course at Hemel Hempstead.
