Midweek League fixture 4 – Stevenage (Hosted by North Herts RR)
Stevenage Striders, coming up to their fourth birthday and making their debut season in the Midweek League, gained promotion from the third division to the second at the first time of asking by finishing runners-up to Harpenden Arrows. Both teams came out in force on the final evening but the Arrows were too strong for the Striders and had to content with finishing second. For a small community club in Britain’s first new town, the Striders who’s aim for the season was to ‘enjoy it and see what happens’ didn’t think of dreaming of promotion until after the third fixture in Preston a few weeks earlier. Now promoted, attention will turn for next season for head coach Chris Leigh and team captains Daniel Sanders and Tracy Bullot where the Striders will face Bishops Stortford, Harlow, Harpenden and two relegated sides from the premier league (to be decided).
